A semi-derelict 1970′s building at the end of a Victorian terrace inspired grand plans for a modern live/work space. Thanks to Hackney Council’s openness to modern buildings and neighbourly support, the plans were realised. The basement is open plan – a space for food, music and play. The kitchen is a 5m long central unit so cooking can be shared along with conversation. The use of white and grey cement tiles helps gain a feeling of space and light in the small garden and black fences give the architectural planting more definition. A studio set towards the back of the house allows for a quiet and private work space.
